Based on TB2 Aerospace’s patented Drone Recharging Operational Payload System (DROPS®) technology, MMAD is designed to work with any Group 1 and Group 2 UAV and attaches to any military, law enforcement, and commercial vehicle with a simple latch lockdown mechanism. “TB2’s vision is to make it simpler, safer, and more cost-effective for operators to sustain autonomous UAV operations in the field, especially in hazardous or contested environments,” said TB2 Aerospace Founder and CEO Hank Scott. “MMAD is an easy-to-use, drone-agnostic system that enables warfighters to turn virtually any vehicle into a mobile launch, recovery, and recharging point for sustained autonomous UAV operations. They don’t need to leave the safety of their vehicle to manually launch, retrieve, recharge, or prepare the aircraft for another mission.” Using the technology developed for DROPS, a UAV can autonomously locate, identify, dock, lock, and recharge on the MMAD dock. The dock’s data transfer capabilities enable it to transmit data to and from the UAV for subsequent missions. Unlike conventional “drone-in-a-box” solutions that typically house a UAV within a dedicated enclosure, MMAD is a simpler mobile platform that does not require additional dedicated drone infrastructure, complicated installation, or specialized training. Multiple MMAD docks can be attached to any vehicle or surface vessel in seconds, turning them into mobile launch, recovery, and recharging points for Group 1 and Group 2 drones. “Autonomous systems need standardization and interoperability if they are going to achieve their full operational potential,” Scott said. “Our approach with DROPS and now MMAD is to create straightforward, standardized interfaces that allow autonomous systems to work across different vehicles, aircraft, payloads, and missions.” About TB2 Aerospace TB2 Aerospace designs and manufactures universal, interoperable capture systems and payload Pods that turn any unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) into multi-mission capable systems.
