Commercial UAV Expo Commercial UAV Expo AirData announced this week that it has added Stream Recording and Rewind to its live streaming platform, giving drone teams more control over video during and after a flight. The update includes three features. The 10-minute Rewind lets authorized viewers scrub back through recent footage while a stream is still live. Stream Recording saves live feeds to the user's AirData account for playback after the flight. And, if an important event happens before anyone starts recording, teams can start a recording that already includes the previous 10 minutes. The features target drone programs where the pilot, aircraft, and decision-maker are not in the same place, including Drone as First Responder (DFR) programs, dock-based inspections, and BVLOS operations. In those workflows, the person who needs the footage is not always watching when something important happens. AirData founder and CEO Eran Steiner said the update addresses gaps that come up on longer operations, when an operator is not recording the whole time and a key moment can go uncaptured. He said teams can now review footage while a mission is still active, keep a second copy of the video off the aircraft, and do so regardless of which drone, dock, or flight app they use. Chad Tillman, UAS coordinator for the Huntsville Police Department, said the tools have given his team's analysts more control over live footage, letting them pause, rewind, and zoom to catch details that might otherwise be missed. Because the video streams directly to AirData, the recording does not depend on recovering the aircraft or its onboard storage. If a drone is lost or an SD card fails, the streamed copy stays in the account. Administrators can set retention periods and share recordings with a PIN, expiration date, or QR code. Stream Recording works with RTMP, RTSP and SRT feeds, including from docks and third-party encoders, so it is not limited to AirData's own mobile app. AirData also pointed to the FAA's upcoming Part 108 framework for routine BVLOS operations, which will require operators to keep more detailed records. The company said cloud recording adds redundancy by storing mission video independently of the aircraft.
